It is well-known that there are many people to bring back the defeated president Mahinda Rajapaksa. Among them are corrupted politicos who want to cover up their corrupt activities. After January 8, 2015, it is this corrupted group who enjoys the benefits of freedom. One can understand why drug smugglers, underworld thugs, and the like wanting to bring back their pet leader. But under Yahapalana government some so-called intellectuals who variously benefitted from Mahinda’s corrupt regime are also enjoying the relative freedom won after January 8th to regroup with their defeated leader. Following intellectuals are going to meet Rajapaksa in Kandy. Among them is Dr. Vijitha Nanayakkara, a man who became a vice chancellor after failing in an attempt to enter parliament from Kandy in 2010 general election. Mahinda Rajapaksa the one who started the tradition of making vice chancellors out of defeated politicians!! Perhaps, this group wants to breathe new life into that ‘wonderful tradition’. It is a shame that someone like Professor GH Peiris has decided to keep company with these fellows of mediocrity.
