Issuing a statement Lal Wijenayake, the general secretary of the Lanka Sama Samja Party ( Majority group) and W. Subasinghe, the president Communist Party of Sri Lanka ( Alternative group) said; “It is our view that there is a clear conflict of interest and that it is morally wrong for the Minister to be in charge of the subject of and law and order with the Police Department under him. We cannot expect the people to feel that justice was done when Avent Garde has been a client of the Minister as admitted by the Minister. Therefore we call upon the Minister to honorably resign from the post of Minister in-charge of Law and order without degrading Parliament itself.
“This incident shows the level to which values in our political system has deteriorated and the enormous task before us to make the victory of January 8th meaningful and achieve the high values that the people expected from our political establishment.
