President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga has met Daham Sirisena at the UN Headquarters in New York last night.
President Sirisena’s son Daham Sirisena has no official status whatsoever in the Sri Lankan delegation.
When President Maithripala Sirisena left for New York and when he arrived in New York the Presidential Media portrayed him as a simple man in contrast to his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa whose foreign visits were made with a large entourage with the tax payer having to foot enormous bills. These sentiments were echoed by almost all sections of the local media in Sri Lanka. Indeed pictures of him arriving in New York in a disheveled state was hailed as an example of his simplicity.
